Comedian Ellen DeGeneres recently returned from a long weekend trip to Europe. It was not to collect material or scout out a quirky new talent for her hit talk show, but rather to gather inspiration for her upcoming lifestyle and clothing brand.

The transition to fashion comes as a bit of a shock to those who fail to associate the funny woman with style. However, DeGeneres says it is something she has always been interested in and “when I someday decide to stop doing the show, my entire focus is going to be design.”

The line is to be named E.D., and is being developed in collaboration with famed lifestyle entrepreneur J. Christopher Burch, who is notably the co-founder of ex-wife Tory Burch’s synonymous clothing line.

DeGeneres’ line has already launched a holiday capsule collection for QVC, with items currently varying from stationary to ceramics to candles, and soon, the addition of clothing. All items from the line will be sold on the E.D. website, set to launch in the spring of 2015. There will also be pop-up shops in a number of unnamed major retailers.

Though already faced with skeptics and critics in a lifestyle-guru world, DeGeneres remains undaunted and optimistic. Her response to skepticism? “They say we’re going to be on another planet soon, right? Well, I’m going to be the first brand on that planet.”
