On May 5, actors, actresses, singers and anyone with a name in Hollywood stepped onto the red carpet for one purpose: fashion. Celebs donned new designs for this year’s Met Gala, prepared to show the world the best of the best when it comes to gowns and tuxes. Though everyone looked fabulous, only a few outliers made our list of this year’s best dressed:
Sarah Jessica Parker and Hailee Steinfeld:
The two Hollywood ladies, though very different in the film characters they portray, chose to don similar looks at this year’s gala. Parker wore a fabulous black and white Oscar de la Renta gown, complete with the designer’s name autographed on the bottom of the back skirt. Steinfeld also donned black and white in a Prabal Gurung gown that accented the star’s fit torso.
Emma Stone and Reese Witherspoon
These gals were struck by spring fever as they hit the red carpet in lieu of the “White Tie and Decorations” theme for the event. Regardless, we loved what they put together — plus, who needs rules anyway? Stone wore a Thakoon dress, which fit in with the current crop-top obsession, while Witherspoon donned a bright pink Stella McCartney gown.
Rihanna and Cara Delevingne
Though breaking the rules is fun when it brings color to the runway, we loved the black and white just as much. Rihanna wore a Stella McCartney outfit, left uncovered at her ribs and perfectly grazing the singer’s curves. Cara Delevingne covered up a bit more, but brought an essence of casualty to the event, with her Stella McCartney get-up (I think we’ve spotted a favorite designer…).
Kim K revived her tumultuous past with Met Ball gowns with this incredible Lanvin gown. The deep blue color of the gown looked incredible against the reality star’s complexion and the high-cinched waist complemented her curves, rather than hugging them a bit too tight for comfort.
And… Benedict Cumberbatch:
An honorable mention goes to actor Benedict Cumberbatch for his complete adherence to the Met Gala’s theme. The British star donned a white-tie, Ralph Lauren tux, complete with a tailcoat. Very nice, sir!
