3 Days of Style: Sarah D.

Name: Sarah Darrow

Major: Theatre

Background: Having a super busy schedule does not always make putting a lot of thought into outfits a top priority. The papers I have to print, the multiple meetings I have to attend and the events I help plan are incredibly time consuming. I would describe my style as all over the place. I can appreciate a dose of prep (button-downs), but also love grunge, minimalistic pieces and the clothes that Rihanna would wear. My personalized outfit formula (sweater + button-down + jeans) and writing for CollegeFashionista for the past three years have helped me avoid dressing like a slob everyday. CollegeFashionista is a great resource for style inspiration because it features college students all over the country dressing well on a college budget. Sometimes, it helps to look through photos of fashionable people to give you motivation to dress better. After all, there are multiple ways to wear the jeans, T-shirt and boots combination that doesn’t always have to be boring.

Day 1: I have to preface this by saying that I had not bought any new clothes since December (that’s a big deal). This is partially due to being poor, being too busy to shop and, well, because I don’t “need” new clothes. But one weekend, I had a shopping itch, so I just went for it. During my adventure, I scored a BCBG leather jacket that was over 50 percent off–I consider that a huge win. So naturally, I had to wear it to class on Monday. This look embodies my outfit formula and is so easy to put together. I started off with black jeans, my favorite chambray button-down, a green sweater, my FAVORITE Nike Air sneakers and, of course, my new leather jacket. This was a comfy outfit that was perfect for a day full of classes and meetings.

Day 2: Tonight, I was on my way to usher for the theatre department’s production of Bethany. I’ll probably wear a similar ensemble when I usher for Romeo & Juliet, which opens after spring break, so make sure you buy a ticket. Since you’re required to wear something other than jeans and a T-shirt, I always opt for a dress ensemble. I’ve grown more attracted to black clothes this past year, hence the black and white dress, black boots and black coat. This is actually one of my favorite dresses because the pattern is awesome and it’s incredibly comfortable.

Day 3: Today was a day for running errands. When I know I have a busy day, I like to put some effort into what I’m wearing since I never know who’ll I’ll run into. For this ensemble, I went for my waxed leather pants, gray V-neck, leopard print flats and my denim jacket. This, of course, was just the first layer underneath my much heavier winter coat. For accessories, I threw on my nautical necklace and favorite watch.
