Zooey Deschanel has been a prominent figure in Hollywood for quite some time now. Many know her from 500 Days of Summer, but she is probably best known for her current role as Jess in her hit TV show, New Girl. She’s no stranger on the red carpet, but she recently started dipping her feet into some new territory and has announced that she is making her debut as a designer. She’s undeniably adorable and her quirky fashion sense has been the center of much attention and envy, but who knew she’d have what it takes to design clothes too?
The star has collaborated with critically acclaimed designer Tommy Hilfiger to release her very first fashion line this coming spring. The line will hit more than 200 Macy’s stores and online in April. The dresses will be running from $98 to $199. The star’s collection has been described as retro, flirty and is very much inspired by 60s fashion, taking influence from the likes of Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton.
The actress and the designer supposedly met at a mutual friend’s house a few years ago. Deschanel states, “Tommy and I share many of the same inspirations — old-school music, classic films and old Hollywood icons.” Tommy Hilfiger told Women’s Wear Daily that Zooey is “the epitome of [a Tommy girl] — all-American, youthful, fun and funny, yet she has a sophistication and worldliness to her that’s quite endearing.”
I must say, for Zooey Deschanel to collaborate with any designer, Tommy Hilfiger would be the first to come to mind. I can see the two creating some wonderful pieces together, as she really is a living and breathing “Tommy girl,” like Hilfiger says. I can’t wait to see their work in person this Spring. Will you be heading over to Macy’s to pick up a dress designed by the one and only Zooey Deschanel?
