On Tuesday, Jan. 28, Lindsey Doolittle, the blogger behind L’s Fashion Dish, visited the Fashion & Retail Society to speak about her trajectory from college to her current — and awesome — job: assistant fashion editor at Rue La La.
After getting her degree in journalism and PR, Doolittle moved to Boston to work in event planning for a restaurant and nightclub group. Soon after she transitioned into the corporate world, where she craved a way to express her creative side, L’s Fashion Dish was born.
Thanks to her great sense of style and dedication to this project, Doolittle received attention not only from readers but also the media, including a feature in The Boston Globe. When it comes to the fashion scene in Beantown, the blogger believes that, “Boston is becoming more of a fashion hub, people are starting to see this city as a fashion destination.”
Even though she did not have a fashion background, Doolittle’s interest in fashion, and L’s Fashion Dish, helped her get the job at Rue La La, an online member-only boutique. As an assistant fashion editor, Doolittle and the creative team come up with events that can be seen on the website, sometimes pairing editorials with these spreads. The team has even had the chance to catch Hollywood’s attention by working with film teams to provide themes for the editorials – the first of which being American Horror Story-themed.
The work routine at Rue is fast paced, according to the blogger, but the environment is fun and the company is big on giving back to the community, so employees get the best of both worlds. At the end of her talk, Doolittle gave advice to anyone interested in the fashion industry.
“Be persistent. Even if you do not have a fashion background, but are willing to work hard and learn, you can make it.”
