This year’s American Music Awards was held in LA at the Nokia Theatre, where stars not only took to the main stage to perform, but also flaunted their looks on the red carpet. Here are some of the standouts from Sunday night:
Katy Perry in Oscar de la Renta
Though not nearly as controversial as her performance outfit to “Unconditionally” (where the songstress donned a kimono in what looked to be an extended scene straight out of “Memoirs of a Geisha”), Katy Perry was glamorous in a dotted Oscar de la Renta Spring 2014 sheer tulle dress, embellished with a charming assemblage of embroidered flowers. Imbuing her signature quirk into the look, she accessorized with an Olympia Le-Tan “Webster’s New World Dictionary” clutch and a complementing dotted manicure.
Rihanna in Jean Paul Gaultier
The recipient of the first ever Icon Award, Rihanna stunned in a sultry two-piece from Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring 2013 Couture collection. She paired the black bustier top with a floor-length sheer lace dress from the runway that mixed both tough and soft aspects with the leather girdle detail.
Miley Cyrus in Versus Versace
A refreshing change in scenery, Miley Cyrus once again shocked us all by sophisticatedly dazzling viewers in a men’s-inspired Versus Versace white pantsuit. Her androgynous ensemble was matched with classic black Saint Laurent pumps and barely-there makeup to go along with the subdued tone.
Nicole Richie in Emilio Pucci
Known for her bohemian flair, Nicole Richie wowed in a chic white cut-out Emilio Pucci gown. She dressed up the cool ensemble with a chunky gold link collar necklace and earring set. Further elevating her style, her makeup was embellished with simple cat-eye mascara and shimmering gold eye shadow. She finished the look with her own brand’s House of Harlow fringed clutch, completing the overall boho inspiration.
Ke$ha in Michael Costello
Totally embodying the music awards show vibe, Ke$ha came to play with an excitingly dramatic gown by “Project Runway” alum Michael Costello. The head-turning black dress featured a one-sided peplum above a thigh-high slit. It wouldn’t be in true Ke$ha fashion if the look held no element of surprise, but the singer did not disappoint with cotton candy-colored tresses center-parted with elegant, loose waves.
