Fall is upon us; however, the long winter days didn’t take it’s time arriving in New England. For the average college student, buying separate wardrobes for each season simply is not practical. Here are four staple items that will last from now until the last snowflake has melted.

Riding Boots

Nothing screams fall quite like a pair of classic leather riding boots. Reese Witherspoon, seen above, pairs her brown riding boots with jeans and a striped sweater. The simplicity of the look adds sophistication. This would be a very easy throw on outfit, and adding extra layers would make it more suitable for winter.

Chunky Sweaters

Everyone needs a good, thick sweater that will last through the long and chilly months ahead. Gwyneth Paltrow gets bonus points for making hers a turtleneck! Chunky and cable knit sweaters are often featured in numerous fall/winter collections and it’s clear why — nothing will keep you warmer or look more put together.

Infinity Scarves

Infinity scarves are a great way to add an extra bit of chic to any outfit. Take cue from Blake Lively and don’t shy away from a fun printed scarf. The extra layer will be sure to keep you warm from fall through winter.

A Classic Peacoat

Finally, the most practical piece to invest in for fall and winter is, of course, a good coat. However, practical doesn’t have to mean boring! Olivia Palermo kept it fun with a vibrant yellow peacoat. The coat makes quite the statement while keeping you warm. Be sure to keep the rest of the outfit understated in order to make the coat really pop!
