3 Days of Style: Kelsey Z.

Name: Kelsey Zimmerer

Major: Journalism

Minor: International Affairs

My style in 3 words: Urban. Chic. Minimalistic.

Background: Growing up in small town Connecticut made finding my fashion footing a little delayed — I knew what I liked, but wasn’t sure if I was ready to try it out in my high school’s hallway. Two years at a city school has made experimenting with fashion exciting and accessible: taking risks with a new trend isn’t as daunting when it’s almost guaranteed that someone else on campus is rocking an even crazier look. I’m working towards a career in fashion. Now whether that’s in fashion journalism or PR is still up in the air, but I’d say my love of the industry is rock solid. My relationship with denim, leather and metallics is doing okay, too.

Day 1: My week started out a little more stressful than I’d like, so I turned to Queen B and basic black to carry me through the day. Concert tanks are incredibly comfortable, personal and obviously cool with dark jeans. Plus, it’s Beyonce, so is any explanation even needed? I topped it off with a black blazer and studded sneaker wedges for a combo deal of edgy but polished. Red lipstick: not optional.

Day 2: I’m a huge fan of comfort and basics: read, denim is everything. Mixing denim washes makes this outfit look more interesting and as if I put more effort into it than I actually did. I perforated the color and texture of the jacket and jeans with a long white flowing tank, while adding warmth, color and height with the booties. Since it was a fairly basic look, I added a studded leather clutch to head to Newbury with friends.  I’m convinced an oversized envelope clutch makes anything look more stylish.

Day 3: Since these next few days are probably the last bursts of autumn warmth, I wore my wool shorts layered over tights before it gets too cold to convince myself to leave the house in them. My favorite thing about these shorts is the shock of leather lining the pockets — it’s all about the details. I paired it with a light cardigan to balance out the dark bottoms, as well as moto boots and a chunky metal necklace for a little edge.
