Last Sunday, Broadway stars and Hollywood celebrities came together to celebrate the 2013 Tony Awards. Over the course of the night, bold colors were shown off on the red carpet and gowns donned rhinestones and sequins. Some dresses, however, especially stuck out.
Throughout the evening, we saw a recurring pattern of a deep purple, eggplant color being worn. One of our favorites was donned by Condola Rashad, as she rocked a mermaid-style dress, which is not easy to do. There was no extra bedazzlement on the dress, but paired with a gorgeous diamond necklace with matching eggplant-colored gems, the simple dress was ideal. The gown hugged Rashad’s curves nicely as well as appropriately. Plus, that color just looks stunning with her complexion!
Jane Krakowski brought some shine to the red carpet with her white, v-neck gown covered in silver sequins and brought together with a metallic belt. The outfit seemed to parallel the brightness of a Broadway show, and managed to come together in a classy fashion. Combined with the deep, black eyeliner and her loose chignon, Krakowski looked absolutely stunning!
Anna Kendrick likewise dazzled viewers with her black and blue Donna Karen Atelier gown. With sheer parts revealing Kendrick’s torso and ruffles down the lower side of the gown, the outfit managed to pull out all the stops without becoming over-the-top or showy. Especially with a dress like this, it was a perfect decision on Kendrick’s part not to match a necklace or earrings with the outfit and rather keep the attention to the dress. It sure got ours!
One outfit that did not impress everyone, however, was Scarlett Johansson’s choice in wearing an animal-print mini-dress to the Tony Awards. Though this may seem like an unwise fashion choice, Johansson pulled off the get-up simply by following the rule that there are no rules in fashion. By wearing something that most people would not expect from her, Johansson shocked her viewers, but still looked beautiful donning the cocktail dress. With a bit of rouge on her lips, the outfit was classy enough for the Tony’s but still had a bit of edge that was oh-so- unexpected.
Last, but certainly not least, Bernadette Peters gets a round of applause for how incredible she looked in her Donna Karen Atelier gown (can you believe she’s in her mid-60’s?!). The combination of her gorgeous red hair and ivy green dress is truly an infinite match and looked fabulous against her complexion. The dress even gave way to strips of fabric, revealing parts of her legs through sheer fabric. With a matching ring, bracelet and earrings, the outfit was all-around a great look for the actress. We approve!
