What drew me to Mary Katrantzou was the niche she had carved out for herself in the realm of prints, colors, and graphics. For the Fall 2013 collection, however, Katrantzou did somewhat of an about-face, leaving behind these trends and focusing intently on silhouette, shape, and monochromatic tones. Many of the pieces seemed to lean more avant garde than wearable with stiff shapes and interesting drapery. Even though this change was not my absolute favorite, what I did like was her use of patterns and pictures on the clothes. It seemed to show that while she did take a different angle this time around, Katrantzou didn’t turn completely away from what brought her international acclaim.
While I thought this unexpected shift was a bit of a let down, I still enjoyed seeing something new from Mary Katrantzou and getting a peek at where she might take us next. View some of the looks below and then head over to Style.com for the full collection.
