Flashy daywear: two words that are not typically placed in the same category by the masses, yet two words that I absolutely strive for in my daily fashion. On a day-to-day basis, that might mean wearing an oversized necklace or sparkles categorized for night, but apparently when taken to the extreme, in the context of “couture,” it means 24-karat gold pinstripes and fully sequined blazers. It is for this reason that I absolutely loved the Atelier Versace 2013 Spring Couture Collection; the collection takes Donatella Versace’s typical daring and dramatic aesthetic for evening wear and stealthily slips it into the day.
The show opened with a pant suit of sorts, embellished with gold. The next look gradually transitioned into a similar skirt suit, and finally a dress inspired by the two looks before it. It was this sense of order that successfully carried the show, a flashy look for day followed by a cohesive look specifically for night. Show stoppers included a sequined boxy men’s inspired gold blazer worn provocatively as a dress, a beaded black floor-length sheath with strong embellished shoulders, and a white Grecian inspired high-low.
Overall the collection was a beautiful departure from Donatella’s typical show, demonstrating a tasteful juxtaposition of day and night. Check out some of our favorites below!
