In a sea of drab, boxy menswear, Alice + Olivia’s fall collection stood out to me like a diamond among the cubic zirconia: classic with a fresh take. The collection’s tone was echoed by cool styling choices such as a double-braid headband, red lips, and a bold cat eye, along with bright jewel-toned bags and shoes and a few quirky glasses. With the backdrop of a metropolitan subway station, the interesting prints and 20s silhouettes brought an interesting touch of edge, while the ladylike tweed, checkered prints, and tartan brought the pieces back to professional territory. I loved the abstract watercolor men’s button-down, red honeycomb miniskirt, and black and red tribal print top.
Overall the collection was tailored but feminine, with a touch of rock n’ roll (case in point: the tweed motorcycle jacket). The lace and leather accents were a bit expected, but I thought that even though a lot of these pieces have been done before—who hasn’t seen the button down shirt under a sweater at this point?—it was one with amazing fabric choices and pieces that real girls (including me) would love to wear.
