The Evolution of Fashion and Costume

THTR 1230 Section 01

MWR 10:30 am-11:35 am

This exciting new course traces the evolution of fashion and costume from Ancient Greece to the 21st century. Illustrated lectures focus on the history and meaning of clothing design and the development of style. Clothing has been used for centuries to protect, attract and define one’s identity. This class will examine the shifting trends of fashion for men and women within its historical, cultural and economic contexts. Special emphasis will be placed on current trends in fashion, with in-depth studies of the work of designers like Dior, Chanel, McQueen, Westwood, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, McCartney, and more.
