3 Days of Haute Style: Esther T.

Name: Esther Tam

Major: Business Marketing

My Style in 3 Words: Classy. Vintage. Feminine.

Background: My style evolves every year as I mature, and it changes between the Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter seasons. My rule of thumb is to invest in staple, classic pieces that can be worn every year, then for every season, purchase trendy items to throw in and mix up my wardrobe. I also love vintage and thrift store shopping, so I mix in those finds as well. My outfits focus on color a lot, so I pay very close attention to the colors of the season. Lately, I have been dressing better thanks to StyleUp, which is like my personal stylist right on my phone! I get stylish outfit recommendations based on my location and weather, plus, it just makes dressing in the morning so much easier, enjoyable, and chicer!

Day 1: My top favorite classic piece is the blazer. A blazer looks good over everything, and pulls any outfit together to give it a polished look. In this outfit, my inspiration is taken from the fall foliage as I pair an evergreen blazer with a burnt orange-colored denim jean. The look is softened up with a lace tank, cream ruffled scarf, and a tassel-style chain necklace. I accessorize with a color blocked, chain-strap purse and black pumps.  (Blazer: Zara, Lace tank: an LA boutique, Jeans: Forever 21, Ruffle scarf: a Hong Kong boutique, Necklace: Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market, Purse: Aldo, Shoes: Target)

Day 2: My second favorite classic piece is the chambray shirt. It can be worn very casually or it can be dressed up like in this outfit where I have it tucked in to scalloped, high-waisted shorts. To make this outfit fall weather appropriate, I threw on some black tights and booties. I topped it all off with a beautiful short-fur camel coat and a plaid scarf.  My accessories give the overall sweet and feminine outfit an edgier feel to make the outfit more interesting. (Denim shirt: H&M, Shorts: Necessary Clothing NYC, Tights: Japan, Coat: H&M, Scarf: Forever21, Necklace: H&M, Belt: Necessary Clothing NYC, Ring: Buffalo Exchange, Purse: Marshalls, Booties: DSW)

Day 3: My final favorite classic piece is the striped sweater. It is the perfect layering piece over everything from collared shirts to collared dresses like in this outfit. The neutral stripes on this sweater make it a very versatile piece that can be worn over many other colors. The gorgeous beaded collar gets center stage in this outfit as it is highlighted by the neckline of the sweater. I tied the outfit together with the belt, keeping the sweater neatly tucked and defining my waist. The outfit is completed with a white watch and a mixed bracelet of pearl, chain, and diamond, to match the pearly white and metallic collar. (Sweater: H&M, Dress: Korean boutique in LA, Tights: Vera Wang for Kohl’s, belt: thrift store, Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs, Bracelet: Forever21, Booties: DSW)
