Yesterday morning, I was fortunate enough to attend the first Tent show of the day with a media pass. Upon arrival, I was given an “editorial” badge, press kit, and media wristband. Members of the media could then use the media lounge while waiting for the show to begin, or join other guests in the larger lounge where drinks and cupcakes were being served. As noon approached, we were led to The Tent outside of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel where we were then seated for the show.
This show featured Karina Bresnahan Swimwear with Samantha House Jewelry. Bresnahan, a graduate of the School of Fashion Design, was part of THE LAUNCH in Boston Fashion Week 2011. Her swimwear is created with “an emphasis on bold fabrics, sexy and sophisticated silhouettes, and an exotic flair.” Sitting in the front row, I was able to see this flair up close.
Bresnahan’s collection this year consisted of swimwear, cover-ups, dresses, and skirts that would be lovely for the summer. The models were styled in beachy waves, French braids, and fishtail braids. The makeup was light and fun, giving the models a fresh, youthful look. Each look was accented with Samantha House Jewelry; I especially liked the large statement necklaces.
As for the clothes, they were saturated in colors and mostly patterned with a smattering of metallic material thrown in the mix. The use of animal print was notable as seen in the multicolored skirts and dresses. I particularly liked the leopard-pattern, gold skirt. The black top contrasted with the gold skirt set off the metallic fabric perfectly. The look was topped with another of the elaborate statement necklaces.
Bresnahan’s maxi dress-like cover-ups were one of the most interesting parts of the show. The dramatics slits combined with the airy fabric gave the looks a beautiful flow as the models walked down the runway.
With a soundtrack that included Ellie Goulding’s “Lights” and Atlas Genius’s “Trojans,” the show had an atmosphere that was upbeat and exciting. The bright colors and presentation of the models translated well to the audience, and when Bresnahan came out after the finale, everyone clapped with enthusiasm and appreciation. Karina Bresnahan Swimwear was a great first show to attend yesterday!
