London Fashion Week E-Board Pick: Erdem

By Sarah Darrow

The inspiration of Erdem’s spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection is fascinating. Designer Erdem Moralioglu drew inspiration from one of the first female sci-fi writers, Zenna Henderson. The women in this collection were supposed to be seen as trying to be a part of planet Earth, but still remaining on the outside. This is why unexpected colors and prints, such as python print and lace, were mixed and matched. They created an intriguing and unexpected combination that was balanced by the more classic silhouettes. Some of the models were even equipped with sunglasses that had a sporty, but somewhat otherworldly feel that contributed to the sci-fi inspiration and idea that these women, were in fact from another planet. My favorite pieces were the looks composed of bright floral prints and pastels. All in all, verything looked out-of-the-box in the best way possible.
