New York Fashion Week: Monique Lhuillier

By Danielle Kleinman

With so many incredible designers showing at New York Fashion Week this season, originality may be a little hard to come by. When Monique Lhuillier announced that her Spring 2013 ready-to-wear line was inspired by birds, fish, and water, it was hard not to think, “well, we’ve certainly heard THAT before.” That is, until her collection came down the runway.

Lhuillier infused chic pieces with stunning digital prints of cranes, fish scales, and waves. Cocktail dresses, structured tops, and slim pants were all paired with symmetrical, mirrored wing imagery. Many of her silhouettes included a peplum that worked perfectly with the rest of her wave-like imagery. In the end, flowing gowns met modern graphics in shades of navy, teal, and fuchsia to finish out the collection. After the last embellished crystal-encrusted look turned down the catwalk, I was in love and dying to own every single design.
